No Helium {needed} Balloons

I came across a pin the other day indicating that baking soda and vinegar would actually fill a balloon and have a helium effect. I may be throwing myself under the bus here but I was curious if it would work. 

So, I took a good ole' diet coke bottle and put it to the test...

I poured the baking soda in first then the vinegar and immediately placed the balloon on...

This is as big as it got. Ha. 
So, it doesn't fill the balloon let alone make it float as if helium is inside...

(On this particular pin it explained what to do right on Pinterest. I tried to find the original post and was unable due to it being erased.)

It's pretty anti-climatic anyway...
